By Greg N: This books packs a lot of useful guidance into 100 pages, yet is very easy to read. It’s obvious the author has had many years of experience in clinical settings and has been able to learn what works with different types of people and what doesn’t. She conveys this information is a very logical manner, identifying 17 different patient types and providing concrete tips on how to best communicate with them. Definitely a very useful and practical book!

This is a well-written, easy to read and focused medical book. It looks at improved communication to soothe patients’ anxieties and find solutions to their health issues. Its short chapters are likely to interest nurses or students entering the medical profession. As a non-expert, I found it interesting that by channeling patients into different categories – “The overwhelmed patient” for instance – clinicians can better understand those who are sick. In other words, this book is about doctors and nurses becoming active listeners and not just assuming they are always right. By displaying a bit more empathy, clinicians are likely to establish a better connection with their patients and in turn have an easier time finding a solution to the ailments before them.
